Santa Cruz Band Review

10/6/2011

This message was also sent out to parents this morning:

Hot off the presses, it's finally here!  Attached is our packet with schedule and other prep information for the Santa Cruz Band Review.  Students will receive a hard copy in class tomorrow.

Please take the time to read through the information thoroughly.  While it is not too long, there is a lot of important info packed into those four pages, and your help at home is incredibly helpful and necessary in many cases.

We have also attached a flier (sent via email, not found below) for instrumentalist parade hair guidelines to supplement the information in the Santa Cruz packet (color guard hair will be separate and explained by Ms. Conway).  We appreciate your help in making sure our students are ready to go next Saturday morning!

For families who are not chaperoning but interested in coming out to support us, I've mapped out the parade route here: http://g.co/maps/g5m8e.  Our main competitive area will be on Center Street, after the intersection of Laurel Street and going towards the water.  We will also have a free play section along Beach street (another great place for pictures), and we will meet our buses and pack up at the parking lot at Beach Street and 3rd.

As we are a performance-based class, band students especially should know and keep in mind that this performance is part of their Fall band curriculum, and they are given substantial grade points for this event.  Each student has a specific spot in the marching block and their absence requires us ample time to plan ahead and reconfigure the formation to account for their absence.  We take care to get our music calendar for the year out as early as possible, and repeat this information in their syllabus for this exact reason.  Students should have turned in a performance excusal slip (attached to the back of the band syllabus) one month prior to this performance in order to be excused for no grade penalty.  All other students are expected to be present and accountable to their group for the morning performance.

If your student has another commitment in the afternoon and you will need to pick them up early from the event, this should be arranged with myself before next Thursday.  Legally, I must release students personally and see both student and parent (or designated guardian) leave together before they may leave from the event.

Thank you for your understanding of deadlines and policies.  This ensures that our group is set up to be as successful as possible, and our students are set up to be as safe as they can be while away.
